A Lovely Year of Finishes: January's Goal

A Lovely Year of FinishesI know, I know. Two posts in one day? Unheard of! I'm just too excited to wait until tomorrow to share my January goal for the A Lovely Year of Finishes challenge. Plus, I have time to blog tonight and who knows what tomorrow will bring, right?

To learn more about this challenge and join in the fun, check out my introductory post or head over to either Melissa or Shanna's blog.

My goal this month is to complete the quilt top laid out in the above photograph. It uses two charm packs of Bungle Jungle and I'm using Kona Papaya for the wonky star. I'll be using the same flannel backing that I used for my Hungry Caterpillar quilt and will probably use the Papaya for the binding. I haven't decided if I'll add a border yet. Do you think I should?

This top belongs to one of two baby quilts I'd like to finish by mid-February, but I'm all about setting realistic goals, so I'm only willing to publicly promise to finish this one top!

I'll let you know mid-month how I'm progressing. Be sure to let me know in the comments if you are also participating in Melissa and Shanna's 2013 challenge so that I can check out your January finish.

  1. I SOOOOO love this one! I wouldn't bother with the border...but that's only because I hate actually doing it...I pretty much suck at borders and I almost always have to take them off and redo them!

  2. The stars are a terrific feature.

  3. I love your quilt.

I wouldn't bother with a border, right now the stars floating in the quilt are the main feature and a border might compete too much. If it was my quilt, I'd add a wide binding in papaya to finish off the quilt.

  4. I agree with Emma - the only way to add a border successfully would be to work a couple more partial stars around the edges and float them across the border... but I'd stick with what you've got! Great work on the Hungry Caterpillar FMQing - see, I told you that the flowers/leaves etc were easy :*)

  5. I don't think you need a border either. I love your quilt so far and it is going to look so cute all finished up!!! Here's to a lovely year of finishes =D I wasn't brave enough to put a quilt up for my first finish. I don't think I would finish in time =P

  8. That is an awesome layout! I don't think it needs a border.

I'd love to do this meme, but I don't even currently have a quilt *started*. Seems a bit premature to commit to a finish!
