WIP Wednesday: Pebbles Fail

Thanks to everyone who weighed in on how I should quilt the marbles section of my Hungry Caterpillar quilt. Had I been smart, I would have taken your suggestions and gone with a simple meandering pattern. Instead, I decided on on pebbling. I felt that the marbles required a round quilting motif.

My inexperience is painfully obvious. Have I totally destroyed this quilt?!  Some of you commented that the stitching wouldn't be that visible. Now that you see my stitching, do you still think that? I don't think I have the patience or heart to rip it out.

  1. Definitely getting better as you go along.

  2. If you can, try putting it away for a few days or weeks, then take it out again and reevaluate. I don't think it's that bad, Lisa, but you have to be good with it, not me. I found that I always hated my FMQ in the moment or even the next day, but when I went back to it a week or so later, I realized it wasn't that bad -- I was just being a perfectionist. Another idea could be to go over it again to either emphasize the pebbles more or to de-emphasize them so that the motif is more of a kid's scribble, which would work with the Eric Carle style. Hope this helps! :)

  3. One of the best things about failures is that they are a great learning experience! No one is perfect all the time, even tho it seems like it cause they only show what worked! Thanks for helping the rest of us to learn too, by letting us know what didn't work so well!!

  4. I agree with going over it again, maybe even using another thread. We tend to not try FMQing but how can we get better if don't do anything. If it was a quilt that I was keeping, I would go for it....

  5. I think it was a good choice to try. We all do things that we don't like especially when we first try something new. I don't think it's that obvious, and don't pick it out. Take this experience and move on.

  6. Just my opinion, but I really love your quilting, it goes very well with the fabric.
